Levitra (UK prescription service)

Levitra is an oral prescription medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It provides first time success and a reliable improvement in the quality of erection for many men.

When ordering Levitra online via Firstmed you have to go through an online health consultation, which consists of answering a medical questionnaire on a secure Internet connection. Our doctor will review the consultation details and decide whether or not to authorise the supply of treatment.

What is Levitra?

Levitra is one of the oral treatments for impotence (male erectile dysfunction) currently available by prescription in the UK. It is a round orange pill containing the active ingredient vardenafil. On average, it is effective for 80% of men.

What are the alternatives to Levitra?

Among the other prescription treatments available in tablet form are Viagra and Cialis. The general feedback from our patients is that Levitra has the least side effects and those who try it, like it and seem to stick with it. Cialis is often the first choice for new patients because its "window" of effectiveness is up to 36 hours, considerably longer than the other two treatments mentioned. This can mean that there is less pressure to "time" your sexual activity and therefore can lead to a more relaxed and "natural" experience. Although very popular, some patients have expressed that they do not like feeling under the influence for so long. Viagra is said to produce the strongest erections but again there can sometimes be side-effects and it varies from patient to patient.

In terms of market share, Levitra accounts for about 15%, Cialis about 35% and Viagra 50%.

Is there a generic alternative?

As with Cialis, there is no legal version of generic Levitra. Our advice is to stay clear of all generic Levitra treatments for the simple reason you do not know what the product contains. As an unlicensed product, there are no quality controls and you have no comeback in the event of the product not working.

The Levitra we supply is the genuine brand medicine carrying the manufacturer's hallmark and production batch code. We supply you with the name of our prescribing doctor and pharmacy when the treatments are despatched.

How does Levitra work?

Levitra vardenafil works in the same way as Viagra and Cialis by blocking an enzyme called phosphodiesterase (PDE5) which is found primarily in the penis. By inhibiting PDE5, the blood vessels in the penis remain relaxed for a longer period allowing for increased blood flow. It also has the effect of "trapping" the blood in the penis helping to produce longer-lasting erections. Levitra and the other treatments Viagra and Cialis only work in response to sexual stimulation.

back

When should I take Levitra?

Between 30 minutes and one hour prior to sexual activity. Levitra should not be taken more than once in any 24-hour period. The half-life of Levitra i.e. the time the drug remains effective after ingestion, is approximately five hours though some of our patients have reported it working for up to 9 hours.

back

How well does Levitra work?

Official trials show that Levitra works extremely well - up to 80% of men reported an improvement in their erections, regardless of cause. Levitra has been shown to be more effective in people with diabetes. In trials 72 per cent of men with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes taking Levitra reported significantly improved erections. Levitra has not been shown to interact with diabetes medication and therefore taking Levitra should not affect your diabetes control.

back

What is the correct dosage?

Patients normally start with the standard dose of 10mg. Our doctor will always advise if the dose is inappropriate.

back

What are the side effects of Levitra?

Levitra is generally well tolerated but side effects include headache, flushing, runny nose and indigestion. All side effects are generally mild to moderate in nature and short lived.

back

Is there any reason why I shouldn't take Levitra?

Men taking medicines containing nitrates in any form should not take Levitra. Nitrates include the heart medicine nitroglycerine (GTN) and the long acting nitrates used to treat angina (chest pain). Levitra can adversely interact with some medications. For further advice, please email our doctor at doctor@firstmed.co.uk.
